One thousand eight hundred and eighty eight Between The Undersigned One of the Crown Agents for the Colonics of Downing Street Westminster in the County of Middlesex ucking for and on behalf of The Government of Hong Kong (hereinafter called the Government; of the one part and Robert Chapman of
Fentiman Road. Clapham Road, London in the County of Surrey of the other part. Whereas the said Robert Chapman hath been

appointed Senior Ward Master of the Government Civil Hospital of Hong Kong for a period of Three years from the date of his arrival in the Colony w the said Robert Chapman doth agree with the said Undersigned that the terms of his engagement as such Sencer Ward Master shall be as follows:
The said Robert Chapman will as soon as required proceed to Hong Kong and on his arrival, there will be placed under the orders of the Superintendent of the Government Civil Hospital and his duties will consist of those usually performed by a Senior Ward Master in a Hospital. 2. The Salary to be paid to the said Robert Chapman shall be at the rate of Fifty dollars ($50) per mensem rising by yearly merements of Five dollars ($5) per mensem to Fixty dollars ($60) per mensem half salary to commence from: date of leaving England, and full salary from the date of arrival in the Colony. He shall also be provided with furnished quarters uniform and rations.
3. The Government shall have power at any time te terminate this Agreement upon giving to the said Robert Chapman three
months notice in writing or paying him a sum equal to three months salary in lieu of such notice.
